MORE than 300 people including 25 teachers of the Wawin National High School and their families were registered by the National Identification team last weekend.
Former Wawin National High School head boy Philip Riga had arranged for the team initially to register about 200 villagers of Wawin. But the school staff and their families requested to join.
The school is about 11km from the Markham Highway at 40-Mile outside Lae.
The registration took all of Saturday and half of Sunday at the school ground in the Wampar LLG in Huon Gulf.
Deputy principal Paul Kupi thanked the mobile team for registering them.
“Our staff and families were trying to go to Lae. But our school is far away from town. Even if we go to town, we are normally the very last people to (be attended to),” Kupi said. “We have been waiting for this opportunity. Now our staff and families have the chance to register right in school. It is very important for teachers in schools around the country.
“We might organise a time later for students to register as well. It’s a great help to our staff.”
