Highlands U16s crowned champs

HIGHLANDS are the Under-16 champions following their impressive performance at the Coca-Cola National Schools Rugby League Championships at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
Highlands thrashed Southern 30-4, with the visitors dominating the showdown from the start to the end.
Northern also handed Southern a 24-6 crushing.
In other results, New Guinea Islands beat Southern 12-10, Highlands defeated Northern 8-0, NGI edged Highlands 8-6 and Northern accounted for NGI 12-4.
Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation executive director Peter Tsiamalili Jr watched the match between NGI and Highlands.
Tsiamalili was invited to the NGI dressing room where he encouraged the youngsters to focus on their fixtures and be good sportsmen.
Tsiamalili said as young players, they needed to change their attitude to be good players to represent the country one day. “You players are so fortunate that the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has provided this pathway to nurture potential talent,” he told the team.
He was accompanied by PNGRFL chief executive Reatau Rau.
U18 boys fixtures: NGI v Northern (9.30am), Southern v NGI (10.40am), Highlands v Northern (11.40am), Southern v Highlands (12.50pm), Northern Vs Southern (2pm), Highlands v NGI (3pm).
