LFA president describes Momase leg of Besta Cup tourney as successful

LAE Football Association (LFA) local organising committee chairman Aaron Mugaliong has hailed the Momase Besta FA Cup a success despite bad weather over the last seven days.
The Morobe Football Association men’s and women’s teams won their respective finals.
Mugaliong said the tournament was a qualifying stage and not for handing out prizes. But the committee thought it was good to give something back to the community.
“We do not want to see teams play and go their own way, so we had to acknowledge the two champions by awarding trophies,” he said.
“For the teams finishing third and fourth, they received consolation prizes.”
Mugaliong said the main focus of the tournament was to give teams a chance to represent Mamose at Besta FA Cup in Lae in October.
“We were happy with the behaviour of the crowd over the last seven days although we had rain interrupting the tournament,” he said.
“I thank all the managers and association executives for their cooperation in bringing their players.”
LFA president Roy Kamen said the association was out for two years due to the political impasse in the football fraternity.
Kamen said Bulolo MP Sam Basil had committed K2 million for LFA to upgrade its grounds.
“We are grateful to the MP for taking time out to come and watch the tournament,” he said.
“This is the home ground of Morobe. We are pleased with the MP for his commitment to LFA.”
