Highway Cowboys fighting to keep title hopes alive

HIGHWAY Cowboys will be looking to keep their title defence alive when they face minor premiers Itisora Broncos in the Siouposa Rugby League preliminary finals at Lese Oalai village tomorrow.
Surprise packages CK Pora Eels will meet Houvu Panthers in the other elimination match of the Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta-sponsored league.
League president Joe Wakiwa said the two winners would advance to the grand final while the losers bow out of the title race.
He said the Broncos-Cowboys clash was a replay of last season’s grand final which Itisora lost.
Wakiwa said it was unfortunate that the two teams would meet for the last time this season.
Broncos are the form team of the competition with the inclusion of Kerema players Ilave Sapea and Mark John alongside local talents.
Cowboys, on the other hand, will be no easy push-overs as they aim to reach their second grand final in as many years.
Eels, with eight players from Kerema, surprised the competition to reach the top-eight playoffs.
Meanwhile, Iopoi Kangaroos will face Siroi Raiders in the women’s grand final next weekend.
Broncos and Cowboys will vie for major honours in the B-Grade decider.
