THE Hilton Hotel in Port Moresby is optimistic about the growth of Papua New Guinea and its economy, when it opened last October in time for the Apec Leaders’ Summit, general manager John Lucas says.
“I think with the recent announcement of projects pending for PNG into the future, Port Moresby as a city, the hotel industry, and then PNG as a country, it is going to grow significantly,” Lucas told The National yesterday.
Lucas said the 212-room hotel was getting a good number of both international and domestic visitors weekly.
“On weekends it tends to be the domestic visitors, who come and stay, but it is a good balance for us.”
When asked about the average number of guests per week, Lucas said: “It is always hard to give an actual percentage because it changes day-to-day, week-to-week, but we are certainly happy at how it is performing at the moment.”
The hotel has five food and beverage outlets.
According to its website, the prices for its guest room ranges from K656 per night to K805 per night. The executive lounge ranges from K901 to K1715.
He said the Kutubu Convention Centre had been very successful since opening day hosting events as small as eight or 10 people to a boardroom of up to 500 people for a dinner.
“The Kutubu convention centre has been constantly busy and that can be premium gala events down to small community events, so it is really a centre available for any anyone and everyone to use.”
Last Friday marked Hilton’s 100 year anniversary worldwide.
The hotel was established in Texas, USA.
