THE Motu Koitabu people are encouraged to preserve their culture as the indigenous landowners of the nation’s capital and Central.
Motu Koita Assembly chairman Opao Fo’o Udia said this during the launching the annual Hiri Moale festival in Port Moresby yesterday.
“The importance of the festival cannot be stressed enough. We need to showcase the Hiri culture and tradition in this modern time,” he said.
“We need the Hiri Moale festival to remind us of our origins, identity and most importantly our standing in this wonderful city of ours as the indigenous landowners of Port Moresby.
“We need to be recognised accordingly and the festival is capable of portraying our existence that is sadly eroding on so many fronts.”
He said the new logo for the festival gave a fresh modern look while maintaining the essentials of the Hiri trade and the colour of the Hiri Moale Festival.
