HIRI West and Rigo kick off the second week of A-Grade finals for the Central Province Premier League’s Hardware Haus Agarobe Cup at the Murray Barracks Oval today.
Hiri West have a second chance to advance into the preliminary finals after losing to Goilala last Friday while Rigo edged out Hiri East to keep their Cup hopes alive.
The next match will see an all-Abau affair featuring Amazon Bay and Aroma Coast.
Favourites Amazon Bay will look to redeem themselves after going down to a stronger Koiari side last week. Aroma survived last week’s elimination final against Kairuku and will be out to keep their Cup hopes intact.
Meanwhile, competition leaders Koiari and Goilala are on a bye this weekend after winning their qualifying finals last week.
League chairman Jack Kedea said he was pleased with the competition as it had exposed players to a tougher level of rugby league.
“Coming into the finals, the remaining six teams have shown their strengths and are equally competitive but it will come down to who has the right attitude on the day,” he said. “The players are not from one district. They come from all the four districts of Central. There’s a bit of a difference in culture and skills.”
