A HIV advocate of a womens association in Papua New Guinea has been awarded a scholarship to attend the 21st International AIDS Conference 2016.
Sylvia John of Young Womens Association of PNG (YWCA) will be attending the conference in Durban, South Africa, from July 18 to 22.
The biennial event is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV as well as policy makers and people living with HIV and others who were committed to ending the epidemic.
John met the criteria to be selected out of more than 7500 applicants to attend the event.
The conference presents scholarship awards to ensure there was a diversity of expertise and perspectives in HIV and AIDS. That was to ensure people from different geographic regions participate.
YWCA executive director Diane Kambanei said John has been involved with the organisation since 2006.
Kambanei said she was an incredible and inspiring HIV advocate.
