HONG Kong registered their first win over the Hebou PNG Barramundis on their tour last Friday in the third and final international 50-over series at Amini Park.
Batting first, PNG got off to a brilliant start with openers Tony Ura (26) and Kipling Doriga (34) putting on a 54-run opening partnership.
Then an extraordinary middle order collapse saw the hosts slump to 108/8 after 23 overs. All-rounder John Boge Reva (16), paceman Nosaina Pokana (12) and an unbeaten 29 runs from Damien Ravu was able help the hosts post 163 runs before being bowled out in 37.3 overs.
Tanveer Ahmed was the star with the ball for Hong Kong taking 4-30 while Ehsan Khan (2-12) and Mohammad Ghazanfar (2-20) picked up a couple of wickets apiece. In reply, Ravu ripped through the Hong Kong top order, reducing them to 26/5 in the 8th over.
Facing another loss, Mohammad Aizag Khan (98 not out) and Waqas Khan (40 not out) took the Barras’ bowling apart, hitting an unbeaten 141 sixth-wicket partnership to guide the visitors to an improbable victory.
Ravu (3-42) was the pick of the Barramundis bowlers, taking three wickets while Reva (1-21) and Norman Vanua (1-43) picked up a wicket each.
Mohammad Aizag Khan bagged the player-of-the-match award for his superb innings to guide Hong Kong to an improbable win.
This result means that PNG won the three-match Hebou International 50-Over Series 2-1.
