PAPUA New Guinea Hockey Federation officials will visit schools in Lae, Rabaul and Manus to conduct their Hook in4 Health programme.
Coordinator Ray Lapun said through the programme would promote healthy living with a focus on nutrition.
“Our programme objective is for students to live, learn and lead well through healthy living,” he said.
“During the awareness, we will use hockey as a tool to gather students and promote healthy living.”
Lapun, who will conduct awareness in Manus, as well as development officers Hussein Lowah (Rabaul) and Lola Ilumpu (Lae) left Port Moresby earlier this week.
Ilumpu said she was passionate about working with volunteers to conduct the programme.
“There are a lot of things that I have to teach the volunteers,” she told The National.
“I’m looking forward to impart whatever I’ve learnt, so that they can continue the programme in Lae.”
Funded by the Australian Government since its 2021 inception, the programme is gaining momentum in Port Moresby. But due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19), visits to other provinces have been hampered.
The programme has been recognised through this year’s South Pacific Brewery-sponsored Sports Awards.
“I’m excited that we will finally create awareness in Lae, Rabaul and Manus. We haven’t created awareness as much as we would’ve liked due to Covid-19 restrictions.”
