THE Hohola off-season rugby league competition heads into its top 16 elimination playoffs this weekend despite following the same draw from last week.
Competition Chairman Samas Yei said last weekend’s fixtures was disturbed by the rain and the games were called off because the field was not conducive for the players and match officials.
“We also cancelled our B-Grade games for both Saturday and Sunday fixtures,” Yei said.
“For this weekend, we have decided to use the same draw and complete most the games for this week to avoid more delay as we have Coca- Cola Ipatas Cup tournament for NCD leg is coming up where some of our teams will be taking part.
“We also want to complete the games as quick as we can because most of our players are students eho would go back to school.”
The opening match at Ipi Park tomorrow will be between the Debona Hornets and the BP Mix Mates.
The Hornets were under average performing team in Hohola off-season until former PNG Kumuls Jessie Joe Parker came back from England and gave his Gerehu boys the boost that they needed to be where they are now.
With Jessie Joe backing them up with his coaching and training skills learnt from England, the Hornets performed extremely well in the remaining season and now they are happy team in the finals.
Yei said after the top 16, he would confirm the top eight sides for next weekend.
For this weekend, the matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
