THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has warned all affiliates throughout the country that no games will commence until approval is sought from the Office of the National Pandemic Response Controller.
PNGRFL chief executive Stanley Hondina said in a statement that the warning covered all major, minor, affiliated and schools rugby league competitions.
“The semi-professional rugby league competition, the Digicel Cup, has been granted approval to kick off its season next Saturday,” he said.
“I have sent a letter today (Thursday) to the controller seeking approval for the commencement of all our other rugby league competitions after Digicel Cup games next weekend.”
He said pending the approval, no games were to commence.
“Any competitions kicking off before formal approval is granted will be seen as offseason and a non-sanctioned event,” Hondina said.
He said PNGRFL, as a responsible organisation, had been complying with all Covid-19 protocols and processes since the pandemic started and would continue to do so.
