Hood Point beat Iarowari in volleyball final

CENTRAL Provincial Schools Sports Carnival men’s volleyball champions Hood Point were given a scare by Iarowari before winning 3-1 at the Sir John Guise Stadium outdoor courts yesterday.
Hula’s Hood Point High School retained title for the second successive year in the bienniel event.
Hood Point took the opening two sets — 25-18 and 25-12 — with relative ease before the Koiari school came back in the third frame to claim it 25-23 sending the comntest into a deciding fourth set.
The fourth set was a closer test as Hood Point locked to close out Iarowari but were pushed to their limits by a determined opponent.
The lead changed hands with it locked at 21-21 and 22-22 before the defending champions kicked out to win the set 25-22 thanks to their ability to maintain a strong and accurate serve.
Hood Point teacher Steven Gia said: “We first won the title in 2016 and were able to defend it this year which is a good feeling.”
Netball, touch, soccer and basketball completed their respective finals but their coordinators have yet to finalise the results.
