West New Britain provincial administrator William Hosea, says women are the backbone of development and their welfare must be paramount.

He told women during a floriculture show in Kimbe to use a seed capital of K100,000 at the Papua New Guinea Micro Finance Limited and the National Micro Finance Bank.

“Women are the sleeping giants and always vital in the engine room for development,” he said.

“They are the driving force in our homes and our communities.”

He said without women, there would be no progress and it was important to treat them as equal partners in development.

Hosea challenged women in the province to put their personal differences aside and redirect their focus on wealth creation not only in floriculture but in other sectors.

He thanked WNB provincial government for supporting the people in the informal sector to enter microbusiness.

The event included the display of plants, handicraft and food crops, training in drapery and traditional styles of cooking.
