Hoskins athletes set for Series

APART from the established members of the national team competing in the PNG Air Athletics Grand Prix Series in Port Moresby this weekend, five athletes will be travelling in from Hoskins, including four promising young athletes who came to the attention of Athletics Papua New Guinea last year.
Sprinter Graham Bai won a hotly-contested Under-18 men’s final with a time of 11.05 seconds and was a close second to Timothy Tuna in the 200m.
Lenia Gilis was the national 200m champion in the U16 division.
Bai will be up against Wewak speedster Emmanuel Anis and three sprinters from Goroka’s National Sports Institute.
Paias Wisil, Jonathan Dende and Alphonse Igish are all now starting to show the benefits of their extended period of training in the Eastern Highlands capital.
Danlyne Siliwen won the 100m and 200m in the U18 division.
Young middle distance runner Dominica Kakapa is understood to be getting support from her family to attend the Grand Prix Series.
The fifth member of the West New Britain contingent is experienced PNG representative Andipas Georasi.
Coming over from Markham Valley High school will be high jumper Isaac Kambuka who placed third in the national championships last year.
Talented all-rounder Edna Boafob will be taking the opportunity to try out a number of different events, including high jump, shot put, javelin and long jump.
