JIWAKA’s Kudjip Nazarene Hospital has scaled down its operations due to a lack of funding to keep it functional, chief executive officer Greg Maurer says.
He said the hospital would reduce services and would not accept any new outpatients.
Maurer said patients were being screened at the gate and some turned away.
“We had said that by Aug 30, if emergency funding is not received or committed by the Government, these were steps to take,” he said.
“There will be no new referrals to surgery accepted while for tuberculosis, dental, vision and other services, we will only attend to follow-up cases.”
He said patients from Anglimp, Western Highlands, and other provinces would need to go elsewhere.
The maternity section would remain open for those in South Waghi and the rest of Jiwaka.
“We would be working toward discharging all current patients and the hospital would be closed completely on midnight Oct 31 if not sooner,” Maurer said.
