FAILURE to place orders at the area medical store (AMS) has resulted in the shortage of medicines and consumables at the Kiunga District Hospital, according to officials.
Badili (AMS) store manager Bibi Miere said the last order sent by the Kiunga hospital was in January for the period Dec 2018 to Jan 2019.
“Since then no other main orders have been raised by Kiunga to AMS Badili for the last six months,” he said.
“The latest two orders received from Kiunga were only registered last month.
“We are now processing their urgent order which would be dispatched next week and the main order will be processed with other North Fly facilities orders as per our schedule.
“We have also already dispatched four (size E) oxygen cylinders to L and Z to be airfreighted over the weekend to Kiunga. They mentioned that they will be airfreighting two empty cylinders back to us as well.”
Miere said he talked with an official from the Kiunga hospital last Friday who came with the orders only last week.
“I was also able to talk to the officer in charge of Kiunga hospital and highlighted to him that since the hospital pharmacy staff had failed to place three orders in the last six months, they were in this situation and were now blaming AMS Badili in the media for the failure of their pharmacy staff.”
He said the officer-in-charge admitted that his staff had recently placed the two big orders to cover up for the missed orders.
