Hospitals are not to be blamed

The National, Wednesday 03rd April 2013

I REFER to your front page report on March 20 about the cause of the late Angoram MP Ludwig Shulze’s death.

He died from a complicated heart condition requiring an operation that could not be performed in PNG, the unavailability

of lifesaving equipment in our hospitals and payment of fees first before service by private hospitals.

On the same day, the editorial focused on former health minister Jamie Maxtone-Graham who said lifestyle diseases such as diabetes were fast becoming a threat.

Our hospitals need to be better equipped and staffed but I doubt the MP died from the above.

In most cases, the cause of death is due to the severity of the patient’s advanced health problems.
