Hospitals get advanced medical kits for training

TWO hospitals in the country have each received advanced paediatric life support (APLS) kits from the Australian government to support training for health workers in paediatric medical emergency.
The APLS training was supported by the Papua New Guinea-Australia partnership and facilitated by the Royal Australasian College of surgeons.
The training was introduced through the clinical support programme for clinicians and trainees at Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae, Port Moresby General Hospital (POMGH) and University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS).
More than 40 health workers in the field of paediatrics from hospitals, UPNG SMHS, Gerehu General Hospital and some health facilities in Central had benefited.
The two APSL kits would ensure that the two hospitals and UPNG SMHS could train staff and students.
Australian High Commission acting counsellor for health security Elise Newton presented the kits to Angau Memorial Hospital, the Morobe health authority executive Dr Kipas Binga on Tuesday.
