Housing corporation officers warned about performance

PRIME Minister James Marape has warned officers of the National Housing Corporation to perform to expectation.
Marape, who toured the NHC headquarters yesterday, told employees that anyone interested in the top job of managing director needed to have a vision that was consistent with the Government’s.
“This occasion is part of the rounds that I’m doing with ministers into departments and state agencies to see men and women that we have deployed right across our country starting at the key central offices,” Marape said.
“NHC is an important organisation that has been decaying and eroding over a long period of time.
“We will now detach from undue political influences that have derailed this organisation from delivery to its core mandate and intension.
“We will take stock of what has happened in the past and if there are any corruption or management issues that have caused those issues, those responsible will face the consequences of their actions.
“Our government will not hide issues of corruption, areas where they are fertile grounds for corruption we will ensure that we put in the right interventions to eliminate that,” he said.
Marape said NHC had been one area where so many discussions had taken place around issues of corruption and a lack of performance.
“We have to also be fair on people who work here, also they work under so much duress over time, constant change of heads, acting appointments and we’ve given them the assurance that there will be minimal political intervention in NHC.
“We want to ensure that this organisation is fully functional and serves the needs of the people.
“National Housing Corporation staff must step up and think outside of their comfort zones that they have been operating in for the 10 to 15 years,” Marape said.
