Housing scheme a reality

A HOUSING scheme for members of the Defence Force has finally become a reality, says commander Brigadier-General Gilbert Toropo.
He was yesterday involved in pouring cement into the foundation of his new home obtained under the scheme at Taurama Valley in Port Moresby.
He becomes one of the first 30 home owners in the force.
He said the military had in the past 40 years been trying to develop its own housing scheme.
“Housing has been one of the key problems many of our ex-servicemen face after leaving the force,” he said.
“This will never be faced again for the current serving members.”
Toropo thanked the Comrade Trustees Savings Limited and contractors for finally making things happen. Project officer Colonel Paul Mai said the project was now in its first phase of building 152 homes.
The first 30 homes are now under construction and the owners are expected to receive keys to their new homes by June.
The occasion was witnessed by CTSL chief executive officer John Nauna, Lae area commandant Colonel Carl Wrakonei, contractors and soldiers from Taurama Barracks.
