THE Port Moresby Corporate 9s rugby league tournament kicked off last Friday night at the Lloyd Robson Oval.
This year, a total of 17 teams has confirmed participation.
They are Bishop Brothers Engineering, Bank of PNG, Bank South Pacific, Hugo Canning Co Ox & Palm, Funeral Home, NCDC YLM, Road Side Investment, PNG Ports Corporation, ANZ Bank, bemobile PNG Ltd, Telikom PNG Ltd, Goodman Fielders International Flames, NCDC City Sivarai, Eda Ranu, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Kumuls Hotels and Digicel PNG Ltd.
In the opening match, defending champions NCDC YLM edged out Eda Ranu 8-6 but the highlight of the night was when HCC Ox & Palm came outclassed GFI Flames 24-6 to start their  season on a high note.
The 17-Mile based team made the finals last year but missed out in a tough draw.
Despite that, this year they have come back with one thing in mind and that is to win this year’s challenge.
In the other games played, Bank of PNG  thrashed bemobile 24-4.
Private bankers BSP also made their presence felt beating Telikom PNG 12-6 while Funeral Homes forfeited NCDC City Sivarai 10-0.
PNG Ports Corporation taught Digicel PNG a lesson crushing the red machine 18-4 in a one-sided affair.
