PAPUA New Guinea SP Hunters winger Solo Wane’s main goal this year is to help the team break their seven-year finals drought.
Wane played his 50th game in the Hostplus Cup two weeks ago against the Tweed Seagulls.
He said seven years without the finals was frustrating and the South Pacific Brewery-sponsored side had a goal set for this year.
“That’s the teams’ goal and our aim is to make it to the finals because we haven’t been to the finals for a very long time.
“For me personally, I’ve never scored a try this season as well that’s also a drought I need to break and hopefully I can score one in the coming games.”
Wane, who also played one test match for the Kumuls, said his rugby league journey has been a rollercoaster ride.
“When I first started at Hunters back in 2021, I struggled,” the former Hela Wigmen said.
“But I got through it and had some good highlights and then some challenges along the way as well.
“To get to 50th game means a lot to me, it’s something I will always treasure and I look forward to play more games.
“I know not many Hunters have played more than 50 games it’s a blessing.”
Wane said he was fortunate to play under three different coaches in Matthew Church, Stanley Tepend and now Paul Aiton.
“Every coach has his own way of coaching and I think I’ve enjoyed and learnt from the three different coaches.”
