Hunters’ former players

Letters

I WANT to support the call made by as PNG Hunters’ supporter in Tuesday’s The National (May 17) for the recall of former players who were behind the Queensland Intrust Super Cup win in 2017.
Several Queensland Intrust Super Cup clubs are the feeder for the most-successful and champion teams in NRL – like Cowboys, Melbourne Storms and Brisbane Broncos. PNG rugby league fans are watching you Mr Super Coach Michael Marum.
You cannot use debutants or inexperienced players at this level of competition.
You can use them off the bench to gain more game experience before they can be slotted in your first 13.
Since you have injuries to regular and experience players in the backs, you come up with this idea to shift players to unfamiliar positions.
Wingers become centres.
It does not work as they lack coordination and play out of position.
I want to suggest that Marum recalls Glen Abavu and former captain Israel Eliab.
These two players may have breach team protocol or other discipline issues.
However, they have served their punishment already and should be recalled as we take a downhill slide.
Eliab and Abavu are Hunters’ premiership-winning players in the Intrust Super Cup competition.
They are foundation and experienced players to lead and defend the premiership in 2018.
The ball is in your court now, Mr Super Coach.
Diehard PNG fans are watching and wondering when will we start winning away games again.
If we lose more away games, then heads must roll.
Our super coach is the best in the business.
He can put the Hunters back in the winners’ circle.
