FORMER Enga Mioks fullback Junior Boby still cannot believe he has made the Hunters final squad for the 2018 Q-Cup campaign.
Bobby, who was drafted into the training squad had finally made Michael Marum’s final 29-man and says he was excited to be part of the champion club.
Bobby, 21, who never completed his education after finishing Grade 8 at Gerehu Primary School in Port Moresby in 2015, said because he could not advance further in education, he chose rugby league for a possible career.
“To be selected into the Hunters squad is a dream come true for me,” Bobby said.
“Among the 44 players in the initial train-on squad that I was part of, I am pleased with the Hunters management, especially coach Michael Marum for his favour on me. “I didn’t come this far easily, I made a lot of sacrifices in my journey towards making the final 29-man squad.
“I do not how to express my feeling right now. I am a Hunter, a name that was always on my lips.”
The lanky lad of mixed Gulf, Central and East New Britain parentage, thanked his family for supporting him when he dropped out of school.
Bobby started playing with the Paga Panthers in the Port Moresby Rugby League competition at 18.
His teammate then Roger Laka, who is a former Hunter, said everyone at PRL knew his talent.
Bobby quickly made an impression on the competition and showed he was a worthy talent.
He was part of the Paga Panthers team who won the 2017 Coca Cola Ipatas Cup grand final in Lae.
From there he was recruited by the Enga Mioks for the 2017 Digicel Cup competition. Bobby had an impressive season during the Digicel Cup and attracted Marum’s attention.
He has proven to the Hunters management that he was serious about his selection.
“I started my league career in the fullback position but now that I am in the Hunters, I will give my best in any position that coach Marum puts me into during the season,” Bobby said.
