Hunters teaching newbie Culligan to get little things right

THE SP Hunters’ attention to detail is an eye-opener for rookie squad member Valentine Culligan after completing week one of pre-season training in Port Moresby.
The third-year University of Papua New Guinea business management student said it was a dream come true for him, with the Hela Wigman noting differences between the Digicel Cup and Queensland Intrust Super Cup.
“The coach is really good, he’s not showing us new stuff but the basics like getting the little things right,” he said.
“In the Digicel Cup, we didn’t do the little things right, we just jump from step one to step five.
“But here, we go all the way back to zero and work from there.
“I’m really happy with that because I’ve missed out on most of the basics, so it will help my game.
“The senior players have been really good to us.
“They’ve been motivating us to train hard.
“They are also demonstrating how the Hunters do things.”
While excited about making the train-on squad, Culligan said he faced the tough decision of choosing whether to continue his studies or pursue rugby league with the Hunters next year.
“This is my dream, being in the Hunters, I want to be with the Hunters next year,” he said.
