ID 24 have paid their K1,000 registration fee to compete in the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup in Port Moresby from Nov 13-15.
Club owner Derrick Mara said the National Capital District side had already begun training for the country’s biggest offseason rugby league tournament
“This is the second time I’m supporting the team to keep my players occupied with rugby league,” he said.
“We are also promoting human rights for our brothers and sisters in West Papua as they continue to push for freedom. I have confidence in my management and players so that is why I’m investing my resources in them. We are looking forward to defend the NCD Governor’s Cup.”
He said team one would defend the Governor’s Cup and team two would compete in the Ipatas Cup.
“We have a good selection process in place. We’ve got talent from Moresby South, North-East and North-West,” he said. “Last year was our first time to compete in the Ipatas Cup but we were unable to deliver good results because we didn’t prepare well. We are preparing early to achieve good results and hopefully, we can win a gold pass to advance to the next stage.”
CCIC Southern and Central Leg coordinator Simon Maima said ID 24 were the first team to register.
