THE International Education Agency (IEA) PNG is aiming to vaccinate 70 per cent of its 200 staff during a vaccination rollout by the Motu Koitabu Mobile Vaccination Clinic at KoroBoro International School, an official says.
More than 200 people, including staff with immediate families and the surrounding community, turned up for the vaccination on Friday.
KoroBoro International School principal Peter O’Sullivan said the joint initiative was being taken to get more people vaccinated in a more secure environment.
“We want to protect our frontliners (teachers and staff) against getting Coronavirus (Covid-19) and passing it on to their family and the students,” he said.
“This is our way of helping PNG to reach 70 per cent target.”
The school has been bringing in people from specialised departments to educate their staff on vaccines as it was optional for them.
O’Sullivan said: “We are encouraging that by bringing in people to give more education.
“We have had doctors, tasked force and people with the virus coming in to educate our staff of the Covid-19 and the vaccines.
“This pandemic is killing people, causing stress and anxiety to the people in this country and we want to help save lives.
“We will still try to work closely with the other 30 per cent of the staff in providing more education and hopeful they will make up their minds to get vaccinated.”
One of the four deputy principals of KoroBoro International school, Judith Taune, said: “Most of our staff are vaccinated because we want to protect ourselves, our loved ones and the students.
“We want to create a safe environment for our students, especially during this crisis. We also want the parents to trust us with their students during the school hours.”
