Imperative to open Wapenamanda airport

Letters, Normal

Kandep MP and Civil Aviation Minister Don Polye must be commended for playing an instrumental role in the upgrading of Wapenamanda Airport.
However, since Cameron Constructions started work some 15 months ago, the airport is still close.
The province badly needs the airport because we are sick and tired of the pot-holed Highlands Highway to Mt Hagen to catch a plane.
The Engan students at University of Papua New Guinea are hoping the airport will be opened sooner than later because our semester will end in a month’s time.
We want to land at Wapenamanda Airport where our bubus, aunties, uncles and wantoks are there to greet us.
Since attending UPNG, I have never left or arrived at the airport.
I call on DPM Polye to ensure that work on the airport is completed quickly.
The airport will not only ease the burden on the travelling public but also open up economic activities in the province.
