Implement policies

Letters

MY views are on the Government’s performance since PM James Marape took over the office.
The country has heard your call and waiting anxiously to see expedition of all your policy directions.
The call to ‘Take back PNG’ ridding on SMEs and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) stands begging for action.
We are yet to see this materialise and when it does, it is expected to transform PNG.
But then the Government’s policy directions are managed and driven by the bureaucracy.
As it stands, the bureaucracy appears unmoved.
We can see the bureaucracy is not motivated and it’s not moving despite the prime minister’s repeated calls. What is wrong with the bureaucracy not translating the Government’s policy call or directions?
The main machinery – the central agency of Government need to get its acts together and drive this government’s development agendas.
The medium term development strategy is there but how can it drive the development without a complimenting role played by the Vision 2050.
The Department of National Planning and Monitoring cannot simply undermine Vision 2050.
The Government’s two key programmes – SME and TVET – needs to fit in well in its respective pillars under Vision 2050 and drive these agendas that are achievable within reasonable time.
Departments of National Planning and Treasury and Finance should seriously advice Government on this.
The Department of National Planning and Monitoring should closely be monitored by the central agency to deliver the Government’s main development agendas.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister needs to provide the oversight himself through its strategic offices of Vision 2050 and central agency.
