PNG Forest Authority hosted schools on World Environment Day and opened a recreational centre.

Director in charge of forest development Sabuin Tunou said the authority held events to mark Environment Day.

Schools that participated were Gerehu Secondary, New Erima Primary, St Theresa Primary, Bavaroko Primary, Kilakila Primary, Ororo Primary and Boreboa Primary.

“We invited students and educate them on the importance of the forests and the natural environment because they are leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

“We also expose them to future study careers in forestry. They will learn what the forests are doing to us, how we are benefiting from them, how to manage them sustainably, be responsible and educate others on forest depletion and encourage reforestation.”
