In court for allegedly raping niece, 7

A MAN who allegedly raped his seven-year-old niece in Port Moresby in August appeared for mention at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
The accused, a 28-year-old from Kompiam, Enga, appeared before Magistrate Paul Nii.
He is charged with one count of rape and one count of molesting.
The accused was alleged to have entered the victim’s room on the night of Aug 17, while the victim was asleep where he then assaulted her.
She screamed and he left the room.
The victim then informed her parents and they chased the accused out of the house.
The offence was allegedly committed at the family home in Port Moresby.
He fled from the family house and went to ATS settlement where he was arrested and taken into custody.
He had appeared in court yesterday from custody for the mention.
Prosecutor Sgt Joseph Sangam asked the court for a month’s adjournment for police to complete the investigation.
Magistrate Nii approved the adjournment to Dec 14 and issued a remand warrant to the accused.
