THE construction of the Usino-Yal road to connect Usino-Bundi to Madang is near completion with about 2km to go on the Madang side.
District administrator Steven Biko inspected the road and was pleased with what he saw on Friday.
“I’m very happy with the progress,” he said.
“I wish to thank contractor JV PNG for a job well done.
“It is two years since the villagers at Gasual have seen car driving through.
“With better road network comes accessibility where flow of basic services is within reach.”
Works manager Baiyom Bunag said: “This new road is a quarry type which can withstand the weight of big trucks.
“Once this pilot track is completed, a proper survey will be conducted and a better road is to be constructed – thus opening the way for traffic and commuters.”
Education minister and local MP Jimmy Uguro said: “My plan to build this road is to have the chromite and fuelling transportation rerouted back to Madang.
“I am thankful to Ramu Nico Mine (MCC Ramu NiCo Ltd) for their continuous support in funding projects in my electorate.”
