THE Independent Commission Against Corruption Bill is expected to be passed by Parliament in its next session starting next week, says Constitutional and Law Reform Commission secretary Dr Mange Matui.
He told The National that the commission (CLRC) had made an input in the Bill now before Parliament.
“Initially the CLRC was not responsible for ICAC but during the consultation process, a draft was given to the secretary. We were consulted and gave our views, but we do not actively participate in the product that came out,” he said.
Matui, recently appointed to take over from Dr Eric Kwa, said there was optimism that the Bill would be passed in Parliament. He said a commission with Thomas Eluh as chairman had already been set in anticipation of the passing of the Bill. Matui said the CLRC was working on other law reform agendas.
“We have the real estate laws that are at the discussion stage. This has to go through the first process of receiving the terms of reference from the minister of justice and attorney-general,” he said.
