COMMITTEE members of the Papua New Guinea Indigenous Business Council were formally sworn in on Tuesday in Lae.
President-elect Sir Nagora  Bogan, vice president Alois Lavu, secretary Sarah Haoda Todd, Southern region representative Timothy Irinaya, Highlands region representative Ian Mopafi and women’s representative Rita Kare attended the ceremony at the Melanesian Hotel.
Islands regional representative Stella Tunim and treasurer Stanis Bai did not attend.
The council got its certificate four weeks ago after a lengthy process.
The committee executives were elected during the indigenous business summit in Kokopo, East New Britian, in April last year.
Sir Nagora said it made logical business sense to start with small to medium enterprises because in practically all countries, they were regarded as the engine-room of sustainable economic growth.
He said in PNG, such enterprises in different industries provided jobs, produced goods and services, supported families and communities, and were represented by more than 750 entrepreneurs at last year’s summit.
Sir Nagora said the council would provide the forum to help upcoming business, and made a special appeal to locally-owned businesses to join the council.
