A GRADE 9 student from West Sepik has been detained in Indonesia for allegedly smuggling marijuana, PNG consular-general Geoffrey Wiri says.
He is in a juvenile centre at Keerom District in Papua province.
The 15-year-old was allegedly caught with 3kgs of marijuana at Keerom Regent just after crossing the border into Indonesia.
He is among 10 Papua New Guineans now in detention in the Papua province for drug-smuggling.
Wiri said three Papua New Guineans were detained for alleged illegal entry.
Meanwhile, West Sepik police commander Chief Insp Moses Ibsagi said the juvenile was not part of the four PNG men who were caught at different locations in Jayapura with 36 bags of marijuana weighing 10.6kg.
“This juvenile was caught separately,” he said.
