THE Sepik Agro Industries has invited all students from East and West Sepik to compete in the brand name and design logo for Sepik chicken and chicken products, says Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru.
Maru said this during the launching of the ‘Sepik Chicken and Grain’ name competition last Friday at the 9–Mile Farm Office.
He said concerned individuals should transmit the word and support the Sepik chicken brand.
“Morobe has two chicken brands – Zenag and Niugini Table Birds – with each having its own name and logo,” Maru said.
“We need to come up with a name and logo for our Sepik produce.”
Agro Business Developer and Partner Innovative Agro Industry chairman Ilas Weiss said the competition was open for all students from Grade 1 to 12, who resided in East and West Sepik.
“We want a name that will carry the pride and vision of these locally produced Sepik eggs and chicken.
“Prizes will be awarded to the best name and logo proposed and the schools which they attend,” Weiss said.
The competition will run for a month.”
Weiss said the prize for the best name and logo design proposed would be K1,000 and K2,000 respectively, and the school of the logo designer would also receive K2,000.
The competition ends on Nov 11 with the winners announced two weeks later.
“Research has told that malnutrition and under-nutrition rob PNG children of their future and the cost to the economy has been estimated to be over a billion kina annually,” Maru said.
“Our project will produce eggs and other chicken products which are a source of highly nutritious protein which parents would be able to afford for their children.
“My ultimate goal for health is to make this source of protein available for children in our two Sepik provinces to reduce malnutrition, under-nutrition and stunting.
“That is the reason we decided to approach the children and schools in this competition.”
