POLICE are recovering stolen vehicles in Port Moresby thanks to the zone sector patrol initiative, says Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou.
He said the initiative was introduced by NCD/Central police commander Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jnr.
Police recovered a stolen vehicle on Friday night.
The driver and three female employees of a supermarket escaped unhurt when five armed criminals held them up and stole the vehicle at Gerehu’s Waikele Market on Friday.
A police unit chased the robbers towards the Gerehu swamp.
The thieves abandoned the vehicle and fled.
“The car owner is a Highlands man contracted by the supermarket retailer to provide transport for staff from the workplace to their homes,” police said. Police also arrested a man who allegedly had a homemade gun and marijuana in Port Moresby on Friday.
The man was arrested near a drain next to a hotel in Port Moresby.
Police said officers on patrol saw the youth acting suspiciously and apprehended him. He was detained.
