INMATES at the Lakiemata prison in West New Britain received Christmas gifts last week – taken from funds allocated by the Talasea district for a prisoners’ rehabilitation programme.
Talasea MP Francis Maneke and a business house SevenMart handed out the gifts on Christmas Eve.
Maneke bought food worth over K5,000 from the K100,000 that the district allocated for the prison rehabilitation programme.
Maneke said he was happy to visit the prisoners.
He said he was trying his best to split the big Talasea district into two before the general election.
He is working with Governor Sasindaran Muthuvel to start a geothermal project in the province and district.
“To put an end to issues happening in the district and province is to allow investment into the province, that will improve the economy and cash flow,” he said.
“There will be more projects happening. We are looking at the projects because the projects will look after us.”
Business house SevenMart for the sixth year in a row provided Christmas gift packs to the inmates containing toiletries, food and drinks.
Warders also given gift packs.
