Install anti-plagiarism software in UPNG

Letters

THIS is a call to the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) to ensure that all of its schools are equipped with an anti-plagiarism detection software in their bid to clamp down on lazy students who submit copy, cut and paste essays and assignments. With the internet now right at our fingertips, this critical tool is essential in dealing with plagiarism, which is a form of corruption itself.
Most universities and colleges around the world use plagiarism detection software in academic grading.
The Divine Word University in Madang has been using a software called Turnitin.
This sets Divine Word University apart from UPNG in the quality of graduates the two universities produce.
Turnitin is an online marking method where you have to upload your assignments online for a systematic marking.
If the system finds that your work is plagiarised by 20 per cent or more, you have to redo your work again.
UPNG has already lost its standards in providing quality and competent graduates and that is why employers overlook their graduates for employment.
To really bring back the standards it had years ago, this is one of many things the university has to look into.

  • This is a very important notice UPNG needs to be aware of. Plagiarism is totally unacceptable and is must be seriously look into. Not only UPNG, but I believe plagiarism seems to be a norm in almost every learning institution in PNG. We must not entertain plagiarism. With the increase in technology, its easy to consider effective and efficient ant-plagiarism detection softwares that will carefully monitor those lazy students who seem to be relaxing through plagiarism.
