Institute aims to empower women with scholarships

INSTITUTE of Business Studies University has issued 30 scholarships to empower women through education to improve their skills, says vice-chancellor Dr Ramachandran Arunachalam.
Arunachalam said educating women was the way forward for national development.
He said since the establishment of the institution, they had given out scholarships to students who had the ability and intelligence but lacked financial support.
“This year, we are offering certificate level three programmers with five scholarships, each worth K4,350, certificate level four programme with five scholarships and other business programmes with scholarship as well,” he said.
Arunachalam said they were ready to sponsor students who could not afford to pay the fees but had the willingness and interest to learn.
He said this year, they would offer online diploma programme to working class people with a grade point average of 2.5 with five more scholarships at a cost of K16,200 each.
Arunachalam said that they would also have scholarship for the degree programme.
He said the scholarship programme would cost K2.5 million.
Arunachalam encouraged women who were willing and interested to learn to apply for the scholarship programme and use the opportunity wisely for the right purpose if given.
