Parents praised for their help

Education

PARENTS have been supporting an early childhood learning centre to ensure their children receive good education.
Mastered Seed Academy director Rose Kanekane said parents in Southern Highlands had been supporting in whatever way they could.
She said overall education level in the province was low due to the poor literacy level of students.
“Many students in the provinces fail their exams and are not able to make it to the tertiary institutions because we lack the foundation part of education,” she said.
Kanekane said books and staff trainings were expensive and the centre needed support.
She thanked the parents for contributing and said that the Government should support them.
The Youth with a Mission trained voluntary teachers with 12 teaching there.
“We work as volunteers for seven years,” Kanekane said.
“The Government and the mission did not recognise us or help us with funding.”
They have 78 teachers teaching children aged four, five, six, seven, eight and 12.
There is also an adult literacy class, training for women in hospitality and housekeeping.
Due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19), the donors who promised to assist them left.
Kanekane said they received books from AusAid.
