SINCE there is an increase in unemployed youth in urban areas, an institute is aiming to bridge the gap through education and life skills training.

PNG Life Education Institution (PNGLEI), founded in 2011, has been educating and providing life skills training to underprivileged, unemployed as well as graduates from other institution who cannot find any employment, an official says.

Institute director and founder Rai Gini said he founded the institute purposely to educate, train and equip underprivileged young people with skills required in the workforce.

“Some of the skills and training include sales and marketing, merchandising and purchasing, basic office procedures, customer relationship and business studies. These courses are in a package to enable the students to be multi-skilled,” Gini said.

He said apart from educating and training them, they liaised with companies to provide the students with six weeks on-the-job-training, to have hands-on experience after learning three months of theory.

Student Joan Said said: “I am happy for PNGLEI for the training as well as getting us job practicals because I‘ve graduated with a diploma in accounting from Port Moresby Business College in 2008 but couldn’t secure employment but through them (PNGLEI), I am now doing my practical and I’m hoping to secure permanent employment after the practical.”

Registration for the third quarter is now open.
