Institute helps students with scholarships to complete study

THE International Training Institute (ITI) has awarded scholarships to 18 first-year students to help them complete their studies.
Diploma in Business Management student Mary Bae who was among recipients told The National that she was thankful for the opportunity as without it she would not have been able to complete her first year of studies.
“Not everyone is financially able to enter into a private school such as ITI and the opportunity like this is very much appreciated,” she said.
The 20-year-old last attended Marianville Secondary School.
She was raised by her mother after her father passed on.
Bae said she also received K5,000 from the Government’s higher education loan programme (Help) to support her through her semester in the school.
Another first-year Information Technology student Ebak Iogae said he was also grateful for the scholarship.
“This scholarship has helped us a lot, especially because our financial constraints and it is a great privilege for us to study under the scholarship and having excess to quality facilities,” he said.
Ebak said study in such an environment would enable them to prosper because of the support and kindness from the staff.
Institution chairman Senthil Kumaran said K300,000 worth of scholarships were given to 88 students, 45 to students in the National Capital and Central and 43 to other centres this year.
“We want to support those who cannot afford but have the ability to come in and study but they have to achieve reasonable grades as well, this is our small contribution towards them,” he said.
He said the scholarship programme would continue next year.
