Vocational centre gets funding for infrastructure

Education

Western Highlands technical and vocational education and training (Tvet) coordinator Camillus Koim says the country needs more people with technical skills.
Koim made this known after Island Mobile Hire Cars presented a cheque for K100,000 to the Tega Assemblies of God (AOG) Tvet centre in Mt Hagen on Friday to help in building a workshop and an administration block.
Camillus said Tvet centres played a key role in the education system and the support of K100,000 would make a lot of difference.
Chairman of Tega AOG Tvet Paul Koim said the support would help to promote quality education in terms of technical knowledge.
Paul said the support from the company would ease the burden of the centre.
“We have the vision of extending by erecting more building infrastructures,” he said.
“We need to have these two buildings in place to give the students a better place to learn.”
Paul said the aim and vision of the Tvet centre was to provide training and help to those at home.
The company, through a committee formed to help communities, had made a commitment of K200,000 to the centre last year and from this, it had made the first payment of K100,000.
The remaining balance would be paid following the completion of the projects.
Public relations officer of the company Joe Kepa, while presenting the cheque to the board members and staff, said that the funding would go to help in promoting technical education in the country.
He said funding was allocated to the centre because of good leadership.
Kepa said the support would be used to extend and promote technical training.
He added that the country needed more technical education for development purposes.
