International sports events to benefit Port Moresby businesses

THE business sector will benefit from two upcoming international sporting events in Port Moresby.
PNG Sports Foundation chief executive officer Peter Tsiamalili Jr said the capital would host the Oceania U18 Hockey Championship in April and the 12th Oceania Swimming Championships in June.
“If money has been invested into these events, we can be reassured that it will trickle down to small to medium enterprises,” Tsiamalili said.
“In terms of those that will assist in ensuring the event happens, and also the big business houses that will be providing accommodation and hire cars and all that.
“The good thing is that money will be spent here in Papua New Guinea and not outside. They will definitely feel that the investment is being put back into our community.
“More importantly it will tick a box for the sport of hockey that after developing a facility in 2015, in their resume, can say that they have now hosted an Oceania qualifier and the same thing with Oceania swimming.
“I am sure we will get support from our private sector and the government has given assurance to support these events so we will all have to be working together to ensure these events happen successfully,” Tsiamalili Jr said.
