FC Momase registered their first win in the National Soccer League competition in beating Southern Strikers 3-1 in a match that was washed-out earlier at the Bisini Soccer Oval on Saturday.
The local derby between both Port Moresby sides saw FC Momase have the upper hand with two goals from Jesse Niebo and Ricky Togubai in the first half to lead 2-0.
The Strikers fought back in the second half with a goal from Gregory Togubai but it was not enough as the Momase men held them back to claim victory. After holding Madang FC to a draw the weekend before and losing narrowly to Toti City FC in round four, Momase gained a lot of confidence which resulted in their first win.
Strikers coach Margret Aka said her side failed to turn up in numbers which resulted in their loss.
“We failed to perform well and our performance throughout the game was below par,” Aka said.
“We didn’t start well and we were trailing 2-0 at half time and it all comes back to the attitude of our players. “We need to change that and it all goes back to us during training for myself as the coach and the players.
“There was a lot of negativity in the beginning of the game and that sort of attitude led us to the defeat.”
