MORE than 1,000 students attending the remote Jimi Secondary School in Jiwaka will soon have access to internet services, thanks to local MP Wake Goi.
Goi, also the Minister of Community Development Youth and Religion, made the announcement on Saturday after purchasing a new vehicle for the school.
He said his electorate faced road problems because of its remoteness.
He said a team would be flown to the school on Friday to start work on installation and connection process.
Goi said his vision was to raise the status of the school.
He said all food rations, building and learning materials were being airlifted to the school.
He said he would help make Jimi Secondary a school of excellence.
“Education will develop and bring up my electorate to the forefront and this is where my focus is at the moment,” he said.
“I will continue to make this my core priority – to see that the pioneer grade 12 graduation is to take place next year.”
Goi said teams from Telikom PNG and Digicel would also be sent to the area to maintain and upgrade the towers for internet signals.
“This is an opportunity for the students, and also the teachers, to access the internet and broaden their learning and knowledge,” he said.
He said grades 9 and 11 students and the teachers were being flown to the school since last week.
Goi said supporting education remains a priority and Jimi development authority was making sure the only secondary and high school there were supported well.
