Introduce projects to curb violence

Letters

GIVEN that the State’s power through the Police are resisted and unable to deter lawlessness in the upper highlands provinces of Southern Highlands, Hela and Enga, the government needs to readjust its strategies in these provinces.
It is proven time and again that the police force and even assistance from the PNG Defence Force does not help and we continue to ask how we could improve law and order in these provinces.
My view is that the Government needs to put some high impact projects in these provinces to have an effect on the lives of these people.
A high impact project should be built in between Paiela and Koroba in Enga and Hela and between Nipa and Mendi in Southern Highlands.
This should be complimented with an established police unit.
Churches should be encouraged through the Church-Government partnership to be present with their services and programmes to transform the mindset of these people.
I believe the government would have an impact through this approach to transform the people.
The government needs to consult with investors and resource companies in these three resource rich provinces to initiate such projects aimed at curtailing the escalating lawlessness in these volatile provinces.
Such an approach would transform these peoples’ attitudes.
