POLICE have completed its investigations into the case of Shangri-La Motel operations manager Sam Yip Chee Ming who is charged with selling counterfeit labelled SP Beer.
Prosecutor Sergeant Chris Iga informed a committal court in Waigani yesterday that the police file had been served.
“We will need time to go through the submission and respond appropriately,” he told magistrate Paul Puri Nii.
Magistrate Nii then gave the prosecution a week to prepare its submission and fixed next Thursday to hear the case.
He said the case was about an emerging crime and therefore the evidence would be interesting to be assessed.
Yip is alleged to have knowingly used on 330mL green can beer, a counterfeit trademark of SP Brewery, in such a manner that the trademark used would make people believe that the beer was the one produced in the country by SP Brewery.
He allegedly sold it with intent to defraud. Yip, 48, from Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur was arraigned in January.
